The difference between an Instagram business and creator account
When creating or changing an Instagram account, you might see two options — business and creator.
What’s the difference?
Business Account
Instagram says a business account is best for “retailers, local businesses, brands, organizations and service providers.”
A business account includes:
analytics about your followers and posts
add call-to-action buttons
integrate third-party scheduling tools
ability to advertise and customize audience targeting
shoppable posts
swipe up option if you are verified or have 10,000+ followers
A business account DOES NOT include:
ability to be a private account
access to all music inside Reels and stories for copyright reasons
Creator Account
Instagram says a creator account is “best for public figures, content producers, artists and influencers.”
A creator account includes:
access creator-specific insights such as daily number of follows/unfollows. A business account provides weekly data.
streamlined messaging. Creators have the option for 3 folders (primary, general and requests) to help filter direct messages
Tag products from brands directly within a feed post
access to all music inside Reels and stories
A creator account DOES NOT include:
the ability to connect to third-party scheduling tools
Which is better?
My recommendation would be stick with a business account unless you are an artist, creator or influencer. You’ll also want to decide if you want the ability to use a third-party scheduling and analytics tool like Later, Buffer or Hootsuite. Currently, scheduling from creator accounts is not supported.
